Designed especially for neurobiologists, FluoRender is an interactive tool for multi-channel fluorescence microscopy data visualization and analysis.
Deep brain stimulation
BrainStimulator is a set of networks that are used in SCIRun to perform simulations of brain stimulation such as transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and magnetic transcranial stimulation (TMS).
Developing software tools for science has always been a central vision of the SCI Institute.

Background

Penny received her BS in Industrial Engineering (Montana State University, 2009) and her PhD in Bioengineering (University of Utah, 2018) before completing a post-doctoral fellowship (ETH Zurich, 2020). Penny returned to the University of Utah as a research associate within the SCI Institute and Orthopaedics. In 2022, she took on the role of the associate director for the One Utah Data Science Hub and is now working in the SCI Institute in support for the One Utah Responsible AI Initiative (RAI).

Current Responsibilities

  • Develop methods to interpret and analyze results from computational models (i.e. statistical shape modeling or finite element analysis) relative to clinical findings
  • Support development of ShapeWorks and FEBio towards expanding the user base to include clinical users

Research Interests

  • Computational and clinical biomechanics
  • Form-function relationship
  • Medical image analysis
